Lesson 4 My Roles in Society
본문

We Are All Leaders

Brian: The election is coming up. Why don't you run/ to run for class represent/representative, Yumi?

Yumi: No way. I'm not the right person for that position.

I've thought/never thought about running.

Brian: Why not?

Yumi: Come on, Brian. Leaders has/have special qualities/quantities.

I don't think a person like me can call/be called a leader.

Brian: What do you mean? I think you have very good leadership qualities/quantities.

You're really friendly and ingoing/outgoing.

You also help people get around/along.

I have no doubt what/that you will elect/be elected if you run.

Brian told me this afternoon what/that I have good leadership qualities/quantities.

No one has ever told me that before.

Why does he think so?

Maybe he was just trying to be nice.

When he said that to me, however/therefore, I started to think.

Can I really become a leader? I don't know.

I think leaders should have a vision, clear/vague goals, and the ability motivating/ to motivate others.

I don't have any/some of those things.

Then I suddenly started wondering/to wonder if these are the only qualities/quantities. that make/makes a good leader.

Maybe I'm right/wrong.

Maybe there are other leadership qualities/quantities.

So I decided doing/to do some research online.

Here's what I found!

GREEN LEADERS “Team Builders”

Ensure what/that the team feels valuing/valued

Create a positive/negative environment

Are friendly and easy/hard to talk to

RED LEADERS “Logical Analysts”

Have good reasoning skills

Analyze problems and situations

Think of the most effective ways achieving/to achieve the team’s goals

PURPLE LEADERS “Hands-Off Managers”

Allow others work/to work on their own

Do not try to control people

Give advice only when it is needed

ORANGE LEADERS “Strict Directors”

Make everyone’s role clear

Make sure everything finishes/is finished on time

Ensure each step is/are done properly

YELLOW LEADERS “Quiet Supporters”

Lead by/in example

Let the team members shine/shining instead/though

Meet the team members’ needs

BLUE LEADERS “Creative Thinkers”

Approach problems in new ways

Come up/over with fresh ideas

Deal with tasks different/differently from/as others

I was surprised that/what there are actually many different leadership styles, so/but soon I realized the reason.

We belong over/to many same/different groups, and many different situations can come up/as in our lives.

They all call for/up different/same leadership styles.

Each group's unique situation determine/determines the best/worst leadership style.

“I am a part of many same/different groups, and I have same/different responsibilities in each group.”

After/Before reading everything, I became more confident/confidently.

I discovered that I have some of the qualities/quantities. of a “green leader.”

If my classmates think/thinks a green leader would make our class worse/better, they might pick me to be class representative! Okay, let's try it!
